Polish student won the EU’s 50th anniversary logo competition.

The winner of the EU’s 50th anniversary logo competition has been decided. Szymon Skrzypczak from Poland has created the logo that will be used for the celebrations of the Rome Treaty next year and will soon be recognised all over Europe.

Szymon Skrzypczak’s design stood out against more than 1,700 other logo proposals by very talented young designers and design students from all EU countries as well as from Bulgaria and Romania.

At the award ceremony on Tuesday 17.10.2006, journalists from all over Europe, representatives of EU institutions as well as the ten pre-selected finalists curiously waited for the jury’s decision. The ten excited newcomers entered the European Commission pressroom one after another, while their logos were presented in a background slideshow. Finally, EU Commission’s Vice President, Margot Wallström, announced the winner: Szymon Skrzypczak. “50 years of peaceful co-operation, growing prosperity and security in Europe are reasons to celebrate. It is also an excellent occasion to discuss what we expect from the EU in the future, for our children and generations to come. This is why the focus of all celebrations should be on activities in which as many people as possible can participate”, Mrs. Wallström said.

Szymon Skrzypczak had the best answer of how to visualize the success story of 50 years of integration, co-operation and togetherness of a united Europe with a logo. More than 1,700 young creatives from all over the EU sent in their mostly excellent proposals.

“I almost not believe that I was able to convince the jury with my creation and can hardly imagine that it will appear all over Europe”, said the overwhelmed winner of the logo competition. Not only can his logo be seen at all events and activities related to the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome in 2007. In addition, he was awarded € 6,000. Tore Rosbo from Denmark and Jenny Lundgren from Sweden won € 4,000 and € 2,000 for the second and third place.
