Polish nominations for an Oscar 2008 ... As many as two Polish productions received the Academy Award nominations: "Katyń", a drama directed by Andrzej Wajda, and "Peter and the Wolf" - a Polish-British co-production directed by Suzie Templeton and produced at the Polish film studio Se-Ma-For. Also, Janusz Kamiński (cinematographer, "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly") and Maciej Szczerbowski, animator (director of "Madame Tutli-Putli") are not without a chance of winning the statuette. Will they win the awards? We will find out on 24 February! Did you know that ... The first and only Oscar for a Polish film was won in 1982 by Tango, a film by Zbigniew Rybczyński, produced at Se-ma-for studio. The film was met with great reception at all festivals, but at that time, few people knew of it in Poland. It won several Grand Prix awards at prestigious festivals, including Fipresci Award, FICC Award in Oberhausen in 1981, Huesca Special Award 1981, Grand Prix in Annecy 1981, 1st Prize in Tampere 1981 and lastly an Oscar for the best short animated film in 1982.
