IRENA SZEWIŃSKA
Irena Szewińska (born 1946) - a renowned Polish sportswoman, an athlete. She won
seven Olympic medals, including three golds: in 1964 in the 4 x 100 m relay,
in 1968 in the 200m, in 1976 in the 400 m. She took part in the Olympic Games
five times. She broke world records on 10 occasions. She was the first woman to break
complete the 400m race in under 50 seconds. She is Vice-President of the Polish Olympic Committee, President of the Polish Athletics Union, a member of the International Olympic
Committee.
